Last week saw the 2018 'Whit Friday March Contest' wherein 150 brass bands march into the villages of Saddleworth, a former Lancashire mill area near to Manchester UK which is truly the 'cradle' of brass bands.

This year, as well as the many world class bands there were several large bands of kids from Wardle where the local school alone has a thousand odd brass fanatics out of about 1200 pupils. Here is the very smallest kids in 'Wardle Blast'......

A nasty wet cold day but rain gear comes as standard!

Whit Friday Marches is a wonderful festival which goes on into the night. As well as the big name bands with world wide reputation there is lots of action from bands further down the sections and young people take a great interest along with their older family members. This last video give an idea of what it's all about.....

Thanks for those Bob, so good to see the youngsters having a go, and sounding great.

The Band I'm in down here in OZ has a junior band, it's a lot of work to keep it going, but lots of fun, for the kids and the grown ups.

We took the Creswick Youth Brass to the National Championships in Melbourne this year, and they were the only Junior Band to march, to an absolute rousing reception - it was fantastic!

Cheers,
Roger
