abandon:

"complete lack of inhibition or restraint"
"to give (oneself) over unrestrained"

As it relates to trumpet playing: Just go for it! Rid yourself of negative thoughts like: Oh my, I never tried going that high before. I hope I don't hurt myself or get too tired.

I never understood players who say "I am saving my lip" There is no "note bank" It changes every day. I wish I could have saved up all my notes. I could use them now in my old age!!

Responses here are mostly anecdotal. Sometimes teachers or players are basing their experience off of a lot of personal practice or a wide range of students, but it still seems is filtered through what has worked for them.

The lip should be a muscle like any other, and I'd imagine that just as in athletics some high level performers excel in different ways, players also have different abilities (some probably thrive with progressive overloading while others blow out). Just as different athletes follow different programs--sprinters emphasizing high speed short bursts, marathon runners going for hours, and bodybuilders intentionally overloading muscles and then adding rest and recovery, trumpet players are probably at least a little similar. I'd assume you could give identical routines to different players and how they performed after a few months could still be quite different.

I haven't felt overloaded as a comeback player yet, but that's probably because I'm not strong enough to do myself harm and I don't have enough free hours to really overload myself.

I always try and stop while I still feel freshish as is a good start for next time I pick the thing up. Easier said than done of course.

For me, exhaustion is like that classic definition for what is considered porn....that is I can't describe it, but I know what it is when I see it

So in this context, its how I feel the next day is determining did I go past what I should have in a previous session. The two things I look for is tightness (less flexibility) and/or range loss due to soreness. This is one reason I use the same warm-up regimen each day, so I can notice these issues.
