I received my Gapper yesterday and played with it today. It's great! It is well made, fits perfectly, and gives me excellent control over my third valve slide. What a wonderful invention! I will definitely recommend it. |

And after all the nice things Australia has said about the Pres... oh...
But on a serious note, can international POSTAGE be added? (It would be cheap and easy. Using UPS etc. would multiply the costs...)
cheers

Andy,
I have good news for you. Thompson Music (thompsonmusic.com) is now carrying the Gapper™ and is set up to ship internationally. I delivered his order at the ITG conference, so it may be a little while before it makes it onto his website. I'm sure he wouldn't mind hearing from you, however.
All the best,

Please note, I am not trying to start a flame war, or dis this product, but...
I have never found this to be an issue for me. Can anyone describe what issues having a large opening on the slide ring causes for you?
Obviously the creator had an issue and created a solution. I would just like to understand. |

I think it will give you the idea. It's really most helpful for kids and people with smaller hands.

I repeat my question. What issue is this addressing?
The videos shows the finger is loose. Why is that an issue? What problem does it cause?
No finger will fill the ring or saddle. Nor should it, since that could result in binding.
Does this somehow make quick transitions easier from extended to normal easier? Or vice versa?
Edit: the usage shown appears to assist in the extension, not the return.
I personally have become accustomed to positioning my finger against the outermost edge of the ring when resting. Resting being neither extended nor returned. Thus there is no gap normally.
Thus, I don’t have an issue, that I know of.
Edit 2: for the purposes of this discussion assume I am no where near your skill level. (Which is probably true in any discussions ) |

LOL! It's really a quickness of use issue. The Gapper™ makes it possible to make transitions faster and with more exact control. There are a bunch of licks that need a really quick response (last page of the Turrin Intrada is a great spot,) and this makes it easier to do so. While it is customarily placed on the outside of the ring, when the finger doesn't have to travel all the way to the outside, it means it's closer to the inside of the ring for the return trip, as it were. Thus pulling back in is quicker, too.
As far as the heart of your question, however, you are probably right. You most likely don't need one! I think it is a large subset of players who will benefit, but it is still only a subset. _________________ David Hunsicker

Thanks David. I seldom play in the register that requires the slide, despite playing in an orchestra that accompanies choirs and mends up in stupid keys like B.
I do wish you success. Cheers. |
