I know that Irving Bush had a relationship with Benge and Purviance in L.A.. Bush certainly designed his mouthpieces but I doubt that he manufactured them.

Does anybody, who agrees with this premise, know the answer?

Thank you.

I think Kanstul makes the Bush pieces.

I've sent a text to Mike Thomas, who distributes them. As soon as he replies I'll post an update.

For a long time they were made by Larry Frank in a garage. Then it was given to Kanstul. And now I believe Jim New makes them

Just heard from Mike & Zony is correct.

Jim New is and has been the guy for the last 33 years.

SUPPOSEDLY...sometime in the mid 60s, after Irving Bush had the mouthpieces ready and available, he took out an ad in the AFM Local 47 monthly magazine ("The Overture") that read "Put your lips on a Bush."

I always meant to research thru the old copies of that publication when I was in LA but sadly...never got around to it.

Oh well!

That's a very interesting bit of history but is there anything on it that says that Jim New makes the mouthpieces vs. just selling then? (Tim's post notwithstanding.)

Hilarious!! they got away with some good stuff back then. Like Mae West: "Is that a pistol in your pocket or you just glad to
see me?" Got past the censors. Just saying.

Jim makes them, Mike Thomas (the Thomas of "Roche-Thomas" oils) is who sells them.

Thanks, Tim. I was just addressing that ad as a stand-alone.

Interesting topic. I found his mpc information on the Burbank trumpets webpage several months ago and I stole Irving's quote on the personality of a trumpet player for my own profile. I don't think there has ever been anything more truthfully spoken about it! The first time I read, when I got to the end of the quote I said to myself, "Cue the Basil Poledouris soundtrack from Conan the Barbarian." I think behind the look of the principle trumpet in an orchestra is the personality of an ax and sword wielding warrior. I may be way off base, but that has always been my take on the trumpet player's mindset.
