Finally thinking about trying a wireless mike, the Samson AWX looks interesting because there’s no separate belt pack, but apparently it’s somewhat new, I posted a thread asking about it a while back, not many responses. They also list a D band and a K band, anyone know the difference?
What are you guys using? Things to look for, advantages, disadvantages?
Thanks!

With no beltpack, the transmitter electronics and battery have to be clipped onto your bell. You might check to see if the weight and balance feels OK to you. Sampson AWX weighs approximately the same as ten US quarters (25-cent pieces). _________________ '75 Bach Strad 180ML/37

Good point.
Any other suggestions for other wireless instrument mike brands? I think most use a belt pack, right?

I use a Shure Beta 98 clip on instrument mic - been using that for years. It's not going to be cheap, but it will last, it will sound great, and it will probably be worth it. _________________ Patrick Gleason

it shows the frequencies in the D and K band. At the very least, they are clear of the soon to be illegal 600Mhz frequency range. Stay away from systems that operate in the 600 Mhz range. Most dealers probably aren't selling 600Mhz systems anymore, but you may see them in the used market at tempting prices.
Here's an SD systems with the transmitter on the mic.
It's been a terrific setup. My only caveat being that the mechanical mounting used to be a bit underwhelming. I'm hoping they've improved their game in that area. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

I have the Samson "old type", and the weight of the mic and transmitter pack was never a problem, it is very light. It is likely that the new model is about the same, or maybe even lighter. _________________ "Don't play like a trumpeter, play like a singer!" Andrea Giuffredi

I use the AMT P800 that cheiden referenced above. Its transmitter is attached to the mic mount and doesn't change the weight/balance of the instrument for me. I had their older series (2014-ish) which you plugged in via USB to charge a lithium battery. It fried on an outdoor gig so I had to update the transmitter to the Q-series which uses a single AA battery which lasts about 17 hours.
The mic itself is great and has the best wireless condenser I've ever played.
While the audio in this video was done on a GoPro, it's a recent VLOG from my trip to Newport Beach this past weekend. It gives you a shot of the setup/mount which is a threaded clip that attaches to the bottom of my tuning slide by the third valve nut:

I use the bell clip because I need to swap between horns. But it's not a very good design. I never tried the other mount that goes to the tuning slide though it seems to be working fine for you. Maybe I'll give AMT a call. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."
