I'm looking for a gig bag that will fit my Olds Ambassador cornet. I'd like something with a relatively small footprint - I'm going to throw it in a suitcase with my clothes to travel.

The Reunion Blues looks good, but I'd rather keep it less expensive - plus I've heard they are too small for a long cornet.

Any suggestions? If I can't get something that will work, I guess I'll be getting a pocket trumpet again - which seemed like a waste since I only used to travel once a year.

I have an Ambassador cornet case that I'm about to throw out. It's pretty small. Let me know if you want it.

An Olds Ambassador doesn't need a gig bag, unless you're trying to protect other things from the Olds...

Thanks Tom - I have the original case, just trying to see if there is smaller option to fit in my suitcase.

The protec cornet case is quite small, and still very protective. It's a case, not a gig bag, but smaller than a lot of gig bags I've seen.

Gard makes a very cheaply priced cornet gig bag that should fit an ambassador fine. It's not nearly as protective, but would take up even less space.

Try Glenn Chronkhite. He may have a long cornet pattern available.

True. Just attach some web straps and sling it over your shoulder. It's the all-purpose camp tool of musical instruments.

These are really cheap, but I've heard that you have to take the bell cone out to fit a longer cornet.

EDIT: I now have one of those Gard cases (in leather) and a longer American wrap cornet WILL NOT FIT in it.

I saw the Gard, but read the review where it said a long cornet wouldn't fit. But if it could be adjusted as Dale mentioned it may just work.

Doesn't need to be overly protective - as my clothes inside the suitcase will provide much of the padding

Thanks for all your suggestions - more are certainly welcome!

+1 for the ProTec case. Very light, but strong. I have had "American" wrap cornets with up to 5" bells in it, and it even fits my '55 Conn 80-A.

Won't carry the mutes and the music folder is the only knock I have on it!

I don't have a standard long cornet, but my Conn 80A Victor just squeezes inside a Reunion Blues cornet bag. It's a tight fit and I'd never transport the horn that way, but it seems to me that if the Victor barely fits an Ambassador would fit easily.

Yoga mat, $12? Ought to be enough there to cut and make 3 taco shells (soft) for your horn/s. That and a couple of those velcro dots. Custom-fitted protection, for $15 total.

The Reunion Blues cornet bag will fit a long bell model.

I have a Bach lable leather flugle gig bag (must have been made by Reunion Blues or Glenn Cronkite) that is very good. By putting a mute in the bell of a long (or short) cornet, the instrument is protected firmly.

The Soundwear trumpet bag also can be used the same way.

A friend has the Reunion Blues bag - the Ambassador fits, but its snug. I ordered the Gard from WWBW - we'll see if it works, if not I'll send it back and reevaluate my options.

I guess I was trying to spend less on the bag than I did the cornet:)

Got this one:

http://www.wwbw.com/Gard-Deluxe-Cordura-Cornet-Bag-467134-i1441073.wwbw?src=gard+cordura

Fits great when I remove the padded disc - it will still work great for the ambassador. I may use it as a carry on, as my Kindle and fits in the side bag.

Now I don't have to spend $$ on a pocket trumpet I would only use once or twice a year...hmmm what other toys are in the classifieds:)

Thanks for everyones input!

bump

Glad to find this old thread and field observation about:

http://www.wwbw.com/Gard-Deluxe-Cordura-Cornet-Bag-467134-i1441073.wwbw?src=gard+cordura , from RNJTrumpet. Thanks!

<<edit: NO LONGER AVAILABLE>>
I have the leather version and it is too small for a Bach Strad long model cornet. ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS?>>

I did salvage and cut up a yoga mat. Some glue and velcro later did the trick for wrapping the travel horn & stowing it in my carry-on. I use a pillowcase to make it easier to slip in and out of this pouch.

But without a carry-on, what to do? Got a protec trumpet shell/case with the shoulder strap. It is semi-hard-sided, beefy protective and durable, but the valve block to bell geometry doesn't accommodate most cornets.
