I know there are a few threads on this topic, but I’m still having trouble finding something that fits my needs.
My boyfriend is a flute player and we’re looking for literature for his senior recital. I’m not a music major, so we aren’t even sure if I’ll be allowed to perform with him. If I am, however, we need a piece/movement that is relatively short (~5 minutes) and has a modest trumpet range. Nerves usually prevent me from playing my full range. I would also prefer it to be more of a ballad, because I’d like to show off my tone quality; however quirky/fun works too. I was looking at Ewazen’s Ballade, Pastorale, and Dance for flute, horn, and piano, and it seemed promising in the range area. If anyone knows more pieces like that, I’m willing to transpose.
Sorry for the pickiness—I’m not terribly confident in my playing, and I don’t want to ruin it for him.
Thanks so much!!!

Look up the Kohler Echo. Neat piece, it might be what you are looking for.

Jim Stephenson's "Croatian" trio is pretty cool. It is 3 mvts but you could always do just 1. Uses a few different horns as well. Good luck!

Just to pick up on one line... "because I’d like to show off my tone quality"

Don't worry about it - your tone quality isn't under scrutiny.

It's easy to get caught up in public performance by shifting the focus onto yourself (atleast from your own point of view) and that can lead to unnecessary nerves. It's very easy to feel like it's all about how you play based on how you assess your own performance - when it's really the audience that matters... or in this case, your boyfriend's playing.

Best of luck whatever you play.
