This might be the first time I've had a post this old resurrected.
I appreciate all the new suggestions! I will give them a try, though instead of Crown Royal I think I'll buy a bottle of Jack and will go to WalMart and buy a cloth bag to put it in temporarily. 
I agree - the old, blue spyder stand is the best I've ever had. I either use it or or just don't bother with a stand.

By all means, buy the bottle. And while you're at it, also buy the big bottle and use the bag to cover your flugelhorn bell. I'm speaking from experience.

When I broke mine it said "Made in West Germany". Stepped on it and FUBARed it. Need a new one.
Great stand. Close to the floor. |

I've heard the new ones are not as good. Let us what the deal is if you get one....
I too love the Spyder stand.
