I notice that after playing (and a little bit all the time), my lip is swollen where the mouthpiece was. Is this normal, or am I doing something wrong?

Actually, I'm not sure if it's swelling or just an impression from the mouthpiece rim. |

Jamming a metal mouthpiece against your face is hardly natural. There's bound to be some reaction. It's incumbent on each player to seek a balance that minimizes any abuse yet allow for a reasonable range of expression. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

I get annoyed by five post sellers as much anyone (well, maybe except for Ron😉), but in this case I don’t think that’s what this post was for. Or maybe I’m wrong. Or maybe.....🤔

Used to get marks on my lips from DW cornet mouthpieces which back in the day used to be quite narrow rim.
Possibly I was using to much pressure as well.
Maybe consider thicker rim/ more rounded or a different grip on trumpet e.g. the Maynard holding the bottom of the valve block which I use when attempting top register to try and stop jamming it on my lips _________________ Smith-Watkins Bb (ML) Professional Trumpet
