Not sure which forum to put this, but I know many of you knew Lex Samu, known as ljazztrm in TH. I was his friend since 2000, when I bought a Monette mouthpiece from him after meeting him on this very site. I think you guys would agree that he had a passion for talking trumpet, technique, and gear that was way beyond what most of us can usually handle. A really wonderful soul, and he will be missed greatly, both in the NYC scene, and on TH. You can read about his life at the link below, and leave a message if you like.

That's surprising and moving. He sure helped me out. Rest easy.

Lex Samu was a great guy and supporter of me and my company. I am crushed at the news of his passing. Life is short, my friends, so do all you can to encourage your friends and family and support those you care about. Lex Samu, I will miss you dear friend, but I look forward to playing loud high and tasteless with you in heaven one day!

Perhaps we will hear you again on that day, "At the sound of the trumpet."

This is so sad. He was a great guy on this forum. He was so enthusiastic about that Dave Belknap Schlossberg routine and seemed to be a really helpful guy on a whole lot of subjects on here. I never met him in person but feel like I knew him from this message board.

And he did love the high notes.

RIP, Lex.

Wow, unexpected... Almost nothing after a quick search, no dates except 8/15/2018 date of death, no service listed...

This is such sad news. Lex was ALWAYS a polite and friendly guy on the TH. I'll miss him and I'm sure we all will.

Sincerely,

John Mohan

P.S. I just found this on his Facebook page:

Quote:
Dear Friends of Lex Samu,

I am deeply saddened to inform you that Lex passed away on Friday August 10, in his home, apparently of natural causes. He was 43. He was found seated as his desk, still wearing his Friday-night gig clothes, headphones on, a pen is his hand.

He is survived by his mother and father. His body will be cremated; there are no plans for a public service.

Lex’s mom, Noreen, created a page where friends can leave condolence messages: http://lex-samu.forevermissed.com.
She would especially appreciate your sharing memories/stories/feelings/thoughts about Lex.

She has also asked for a group prayer for Lex. She wrote: "I've chosen this Thursday (August 23rd) at noon time as a good time since many musicians have gigs in the evening. I'm hoping to get many many prayers that will help Lex."

Also, as you know, Lex was at the hub of a wide variety of music projects and activities, and your help is greatly appreciated in passing on this sad news to his friends and fellow musicians, to his students, to schools at which he taught, and to anyone else with whom he had regular contact.

And not least, for those of us concerned about Lex's beloved cats, Giovanni and Olive, they are now in good care with Deb Wantuch, Lex's intrepid neighbor, who is herself a "guardian" of many cats. They were both rescue cats from her organization GiveMeShelterProject.org.
Anyone wishing to make a memorial donation in honor of Lex can do so at their Facebook page: Give Me Shelter Project, Inc. or contact Deb at debwantuch@gmail.com.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Richard Russo
Bandleader for the Friday quartet at Capital Grille. It was my good fortune to make music there with Lex every Friday for eight years.
