RIP Scott Laskey.

Scott's son Alex posted on Facebook today that his father, the great mouthpiece maker, Scott Laskey has passed on.
Alex reported his dad suffered a cancer related stroke on July 3rd and died in a hospice. No date was given.
Very sad news.

Oh Man, this is very sad. Thanks for the news. He was a master craftsman whose mark on the brass world will remain for a very long time!

I'm very sorry to hear that. He was rather young, too. His mouthpiece work was some of the very best in the business.

So very sorry to hear of this. I met Scott in 2003 at the ITG in Fort Worth TX. We had dinner together, and had a good time.

So sad....

Scott was a master of his craft and a friend. Many years ago when my daughter was starting on the cornet he made her a 50SB with her name stamped on it. She felt very special! This is a great loss to the community.

This is sad. Mouthpieces were great, but we should also give a nod to the horns he and Ron Pinc developed. I have one of their C horns that's fantastic.

My dad took great pride in his ability to help musicians achieve the sound that they wanted through his craftsmanship.

For this reason, in lieu of a public memorial service, we hope to collect stories about him from the people that he's worked with over the years. We especially would love to hear how he personally has helped you or a story involving his sharp sense of humor, but any comment about him would be cherished.

I played my Laskey cornet 75p today. A lot of us are having fun with music because of him. Blessings to Scott's family.

I was not aware Scott passed away. Very sad. Scott made all my custom mouthpieces while at Schilke. His adjustments to my 14s saved my bacon and got me through those first run import Broadway shows with all the ridiculous tiered management, supervisors and contractors.

Condolences to Scott's family. He will be missed. Thank you Scott!

First time I heard of this- I am stunned!
I've been involved the last month with moving my home and business cross-country to the Florida panhandle, so pandemonium
and chaos have reigned in my life as of late.

I met Scott 43 years ago when I was growing up in the Chicago area, We were close to the same age when my mother drove me
to Schilke Music for "another" custom mouthpiece. Scott had been given the reigns of the custom mouthpiece department, taking
over from Phil Warsip, who had taken ill. E. Bud Schlimm and Paul Busija introduced us, and over the ensuing years Scott made
me several custom pieces that not only worked well, but sounded fantastic as well! He made me a series of 15B trumpet pieces
with the B, A, and AA backbores that made my job with Ray Charles much, much easier. He was also a master at setting up
horns. When the Schilke S42 was being developed, he set up a fabulous one for me that I used successfully for some time.

In 1998, I made the decision to take over production of my fledgling mouthpiece line using CAD/CAM technology and CNC
machining. At about the same time, Scott had taken leave of Schilke Music and decided to start The Laskey Company. We both
decided on using MasterCam and from the beginning we shared information about the software and the million other details that
CNC machining entails.

Over the years, I knew Scott first as a playing peer (he was a Fine Player!) and as a cohort in the Mouthpiece Biz. I could pick up
the phone and ask him machine questions, advice, or swap a custom mouthpiece profile.

Proving he was true to his ideals, just watch the posted video of the french horn mouthpiece machining on the Laskey site. I can
hear him narrating every single move he programmed. He truly did produce hand-finished, custom mouthpieces using CNC
technology.

Scott was truly inimitable, singularly unique, and his dry wit be missed. Condolences go out to his Family!
