Hey Trumpet Friends,
With Hurricane Florence approaching my house, I’m evacuated and have some time on my hands, so I’ve decided to surprise release my new mini-album “The Trumpet” today.
The album is 5 tracks (4 originals and 1 cover) dedicated to trumpet players that are friends and important to me in my development (Tim Hagans, Jay Coble, Augie Haas, Jason Carder, and Alex Norris.) I wanted to write some new music this summer, but didn’t have the time or energy to put together a live band with two small children at home, so this album is a challenge with a few rules:
1. I composed, tracked, engineered, and produced the entire album at my home studio.
2. All sounds must originate from an acoustic trumpet.
3. All the music must be written on the trumpet (or singing) – no piano. This was a REAL challenge.
4. All songs must have some written material and improvised material with the improvised material later being “comped” or used to develop more compositional material.
I hope you’ll consider checking it out. I’m doing a digital only release for $5 at the following sites:

This was a fun project. I used 5 different trumpets, a bunch of mouthpieces, nearly 100 individual trumpet tracks, countless sheets of manuscript paper, and came up with some interested musical solutions (like using valve clicks running through a gate to a signal generator to layer “samples.”)
Thanks for your time and good luck to those of you also in Florence’s path. Music!
Best,

Thanks so much Trent! It means a lot to me.
This is also hilarious as I was hiding out in the kitchen last night watching your video on the differences between your mouthpiece blanks and my wife said "What are you doing back there?!?" I replied "learning!!!"
Hahahaha.
Hope to see you soon. Thanks for spreading the word. Music!
