Both FAXX and Kelly make a plastic (polycarbonate/Lexan) mouthpiece that is based on the Mt Vernon Bach 7c. Has anyone done a side by side comparison of these mouthpieces?

How do they compare to the modern Bach 7c with narrow rim and deep cup?

I'm also curious about perceptions of the material - reports say it feels softer than brass and obviously doesn't feel as cold outdoors. Sound quality reports are that it makes only a minor difference: some say better some say worse.

Should I risk $11 and buy one? Does it have resale value?

Plastic mpcs such as Kelly may have value for cold applications, outdoors, etc. but where I live, we have no need for that. They are good for little kids, appealing to their sense of adventure, but they do not sound as good, period.

We have used Faxx mpcs on school instruments for years, good value, often a better . cut than modern Bach mpcs...

But, everyone is different, so you have to try to find what works best for you!

cheers

Andy

I have a Kelly 7C and it sounds pretty good at the modest volumes. It's useful in situations where I need to be quiet but still sound like a trumpet dynamically.
