I'm a big fan of Lawler trumpets (i own two TL5 and one C7). I always wondered if anyone know the exact number of trumpets per model that Roy Lawler built in his career. I know there's a total of about 1500, but this amount includes all models as well as cornets, C trumpets and flugelhorns.
Before you say i've already asked Lawler but at that time he didn't answered to may email.

I belive only Roy can answer to this question but as you said he don't answer to mails, from trumpet players i guess becose a friend of mine send him a mail for a new trombone and he recive a fast reply, that is a big problem specialy if one of us need a replacement part for his horn like a leadpipe or something like that.

Regards

I doubt that even Roy could accurately answer your question. Over time he used at least three different valve manufacturers. He made "customized" horns so even the assigned models were far from the same. He also made several piccolo trpts, many fanfare trumpets, flugels, cornets and a couple of "lead horns" that didn't make it to the market place, but were dubbed the "E" horn (experimental?). Probably, by far his best selling "model" was the C7, followed by the TL5, TL6 and the PS1. But all came in different configurations. Even the C7 had two different tuning slide configurations (the C7 and the C7c). Around 2005 there was also a few "brief case horns" that featured a screw-on #21 bell that fit in a business brief case customized by Roy. Only because I kept records I can count 12 different models I owned over a period of about 20 years. I still own a pre-Getzen flugel.

There's this, but it's only through 2013:

From this list only 9 TL-5 (my favorite Lawler horn) were built at that date (2013) … if this list is correct i suspect a maximum of, don't know, maybe 20-30 TL-5 around in the whole world? If this is correct i'll treasure mine much more than i already do.

This is more reasonable, but still a very little amount if compared to other big names in the industry. Still a very valuable horn.

And for me the TL6R-1A plays ten times better than the Van Laar CF.

Is the TL6R-1A very different in sound and response from the TL-5 1A?

Exacly the same body but with tuning slide post and different shape, material bell , rose brass, bigger bell throat but smaller bell rim (accept if is a #6L bell) and French bead.
Perfect for jazz combo and I'd you try it with a real deep mpc like my Reeves 43C2J it sounds like a melting chocolate but with a shalow piece works great for commercial purposes a real chameleon! !!!

Regards
