I'm debating between a Curry 1.5TF and Schilke Symphony F2, might be needing one. Does anyone have a reason for picking one over the other? |

What on Earth is a "fluffy" mouthpiece? I've never heard that one.
But why not just order both from either wwbw, com or Mouthpiece express? They both have generous return policies. Keep the one you like and return the other. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

For years I've owned and used when needed (on C, B-flat, and even E-flat trumpet) a Schilke 1C FL as a fluffy trumpet mouthpiece. This has been for those early church gigs after a hard-bounding late night of "A Chorus Line," and it's seemed to do the trick for those soft entrances on beat-up chops. I know it's basically a flugel shank, but with its deep cup (and what looks to be a wide throat, but may not be), I've barely had to adjust my tuning slide between it and my main symphonic mpc: Greg Black 1.25C.
However, this past year, I picked up a Curry 1 TF, and I like the freedom for my lips, pitch, response, and sound slightly better...at least in most playing experiences so far. If I had to choose between the two, it would be the Curry, but for now, I plan to hang on to the Schilke in case I find it works better on certain passages. |

Also consider the Pickett version. They can make it with whatever rim you use already. I think it plays better than the Curry and Schilke fluffies. _________________ Trombahonker's Practice Studio on Youtube |

Haha! I know what you're talking about, although I've never heard the term "fluffy." It's like finally coming upon a song that calls for flugel when you're 2 1/2 hours into a three hour gig, and everyone says, "thank God..."
I actually own a Curry TF, which I use for those "day after" times. It does exactly what you want. The nice thing about the Curry is that I am able to play the exact rim on the TF that I normally play with a C cup, so no chop adjustment is necessary. I should point out, however, that it is pretty much impossible, for me anyway, to light up that mouthpiece. I've got pretty good range on it, up to an F, but never a bright sound. Coincidentally, I've ordered his TC mouthpiece in the same rim size, but it is on back order. Mark says that one will brighten up if you need it to, so you might want to put one of those on your "to try" list. You can read about it on the Curry web site. _________________ Burbank Benge Bb MLP

+1 for the Curry F cup It is fluffy indeed.
Also try the Curry TC cup, less "fluffy" but soft enough and with a nice added zing if needed. _________________ ------------------------

I have three:
Monette B 1-4 FL
Monette B 1- 5 FL R6
Horn Trader HT3 Jazz
The horn trader one is the fluffiest.
The Monettes are very focussed although they are very deep.
More like cornet mouthpieces.
I think if you want fluffy some of that will be don to the shape of the instrument bell. _________________ Bb - Scherzer 8218W, Schilke S22, Bach 43, Selmer 19A Balanced
