I have heard Chris Botti perform several times. Very good entertainer.
I have heard that Chris is a good straight-ahead jazz player. Can anyone refer me to any recordings of him doing it? Thanks in advance!

Enjoyable watching the whole thing but I think what you're specifically looking for try at about 8:12 and 25:16

I heard Chris Botti play some straight ahead jazz in one of his concerts. All I can say is that it was simply fantastic.

Chris employed a number of very talented artists in the concert that attended. It was a great show. Still, Chris is more than a showman. He is a great trumpet player.

Warm regards,
Grits

Botti has a sound and style which are his alone. Labeling it doesn't serve any useful purpose. Wanna call it something - just call it Botti.

These are the two best recordings I know of that document Botti playing straight ahead:

Roland Vazquez - the tides of time. He's on that big band with some heavy names, Dick Oatts, Ted Nash, Brian Lynch. Mid 1980's.

If you're into some out-there stuff, there's some fine Chris Botti on a couple of Bill Bruford cd's, Upper Extremities and Blue Nights.

Speaking of Roland Vazquez (hey Mike!), try to find his Urban Ensemble release - one of my favorite fusion lp's from the 70s.

The other trumpeter is Thara Memory.
