So today I had marching band practice outside, where for the first time, my band played in a temperature below 60°

Is there is anything I should look out for when it gets cold like this outside?

I never enjoyed playing in the cold.

Keep your mouthpiece in your hand to help keep it warm.

Neither do I. Once, a whole lotta years ago, I was playing with the university band, it ´was freezing cold and my valves frooze! Had to put the horn ( a cornet)inside my coat. And quickly learned not to spit on the valves but to use an oil..... And to keep the mouthpiece warm - a habit I´ve made an art of since then - always ensuring it is warm.
Besides that lips got pinched and in general body rigid, difficult to play with gloves...
Brrrr.
Stay inside or argue with the organizers! There should be minimum requirements fulfilled if people want music. Seems sometimes organizers forget that. But that´s more of a general problem. Food for another thread.

Are you using plastic or metal mouthpieces for marching band in the cold weather?

Consider using plastic instead of metal mouthpieces for marching band in the cold weather.

I third the motion for a plastic mouthpiece. If you don't use one, keeping the metal mouthpiece in your hand or pocket is a must.

I find that it messes with my setup. Try not to force anything other than the usual to obtain the sound. Keep your fundamentals and some of the plastic mouthpiece options can be better for climate change. I wouldn't rush for a plastic mouthpiece right away though. You'll lose some projection, and below 60 isn't too terrible for playing conditions with a metal mouthpiece although still chilly.
