Hi,

I like to listen to big band music.
Among the contemporary bands, Maria Schneider Orchestra
and Italian Instabile Orchestra are my two most favorite big bands.

I got to know the music of Don Ellis and as I become more familiar to jazz,
I could somehow realize that his music was much ahead of his time.
So far, I only have listened to three albums: Electric Bath, Tears of Joy, and Soaring.

I was wondering whether you could recommend me some of his recordings which you like a lot.
I only have a CD player. But, any recommendation would be helpful or Youtube clip is welcome as well.

Also, I was wondering his status in the jazz scene at that time.
Was he also considered as a mainstream jazz musician?

I’ve been a fan of Don’s for a while. My favorites are Autumn, Live in Monterey, and Live In 3 2/3/4 Time.

Also, Don Ellis in India. (Takes a lot of guts!)

My favorite is "The New Don Ellis Band Goes Underground" with Patti Allen, vocalists. The Fillmore album has a lot of classic Ellis charts as well.

Ah, yes. German/Austrian T.V. Love it! Try finding a concert like this on American T.V.

Thomas Gansch is a beast! He posts here sometimes and has been kind enough to grace me with a few private message/conversations. Super nice guy.
