What are you guys favorite affordable (0- 600 USD) vintage horns?
Mine would have to be a Olds Ambassador or some form of a Conn 22b.

A 1960s or earlier Conn 22B in good condition is a very good trumpet. Probably one of the best deals to be had, because there are (or were) so many of them out there.

The 50's and 60's era Henri Selmer trumpets can be had for a reasonable sum and they are great horns.

Love Conn 22b and other older Conn horns, especially the prewar 2b and the 8b.

Bach Mercury trumpets are also great, if you can deal with lack of tuning slides. They can sometimes be had for under 600.

I've had some good experiences with a late 50s Super Collegiate and early 60s Galaxy. The Galaxy in both trumpet and cornet.

Buescher. Sneered at because “student horn”. So good you’ll cry when you play one.

Late 30s to 1956 is the best era.

Don’t believe me? Ask Dale, here.

I have come across only one vintage trumpet that I would consider buying. In fact, it was so good that, if it were ever for sale, I would contemplate selling my WT trumpet (if need be) to get it, knowing that I still can order a Wild Thing.

It was a particular Chicago era Benge ML. It was pristine and it had the most intoxicating sound in the upper register. It is the only trumpet I've ever played that sang out a high G with no trouble or significant effort. And what a captivating tone! I'm glad I was in a building where I could really hear the actual sound coming back so clearly.

All the other vintage horns I've played (at any value), including a #3 bore Martin Committee Deluxe, were easily met and eclipsed by my Wild Thing in sound and playability.

There is one reason that I practice: to be ready at the downbeat when the final trumpet sounds.

Conn 22b NYS Early model. Still a fantastic instrument, and one that was ahead of its time.

Also 1950s Holton Stratodyne - but usually those top the spending limit specified unless you get lucky and the seller doesn't know what they have.

Also the 3 digit Yamaha Schilke clones occasionally stay down in this range on EBay.

Yes, I've played some of Tom's vintage Bueschers and they are fine instruments. I liked one trumpet in particular, but I can't remember which model it was.

I'm a Francophile .. LeBlanc/Courtois 60's-70's horns, Selmer Paris 50's - 70's horns, SML if you can find them, all available under $600, all awesome! My fancy Edwards horn is mostly getting stand time these days, the Sonic 707 plays for me instead of me working to play it.

Really like my Hüttl Silver Colibri 69 - bought it off eBay for 140 EUR. Big nickel silver bell and huge sound.

Vega Power models and Triumphal are amazing if you can find one in decent condition. Also, The Selmer K Modified Lightweight is one of the easiest playing horns out there.

Yes, with hindsight, I should have added my Super Collegiate, the Buescher 400 225 and the Vega Standard. Then again, what about the 22b,early model NYS or perhaps the King Liberty 2B.
Is there no cure for this?
