Buescher. Sneered at because “student horn”. So good you’ll cry when you play one.

Late 30s to 1956 is the best era.

Don’t believe me? Ask Dale, here.

Yes, I've played some of Tom's vintage Bueschers and they are fine instruments. I liked one trumpet in particular, but I can't remember which model it was.

One of the Lightweight 400s?

I should concentrate on an affordable horn. Not vintage.

See, that's the point of vintage... unless you buy that awful Martin Committee Model, vintage are affordable and better than you can get new at the same price.

Check out what Rich Ita in Marietta GA has on offer, for example:

Mixed in with the more expensive newer horns are some good values (ignore that Ambassador, it just hasn't been made into a lamp yet).

Lots of choices!

That's why vintage is the way to go though. A lot of vintage horns play really well for how cheap they are. Plus, its kinda like gambling when you buy a lot of goodies and finally get them in the mail. But, if you have your heart set on getting something new, Yamaha Xeno's and upper level Jupiter horns are great. Also, never forget the eternal Getzen Eterna line.
