My friend recently found a very old Parduba Double Cup mouthpiece at an antique store with an antique trumpet. I haven't heard anything about these mouthpieces, but the thought behind the technology of the mouthpiece is interesting.
If someone could offer me more insight on these mouthpieces, that would be great! |

The original Parduba pieces were all handmade by John Parduba in his shop, and most have a pretty good reputation among those who like double cup pieces. The modern iterations are made by Dick Akright, who uses CNC machines to keep them more consistent. His pieces are modeled from the sample pieces he acquired, and thus aren't comparable to all old Parduba mouthpieces.
I personally find them hard to play well, but I haven't spent much time trying to acclimate, so take that into consideration. Harry James is one example of a player who really liked the double cup design, and had his pieces custom made by Parduba. Hopefully that helps you a little, and someone who has more familiarity with their playing characteristics and specs will chime in. _________________ Horns:

I tried one for awhile but found the inner cup too sharp. _________________ Jim Hatfield

I exclusively used a 5 Star HJ piece for about 15 months, and I found it to be very responsive and efficient. I was still in school at the time, and found that most of my peers enjoyed it as well (about 4/5 people). I was a little underwhelmed by the sound, but that’s because I was switching back and forth between commercial playing (where it more than performed) and a wind ensemble (where it felt too thin and bright). Overall it’s a pretty good piece that I still use time to time |
