Restarting after many years, I borrowed a Mercury horn. Web search tells me that's a Bach model. It has a four digit serial number and web searching suggests it would therefore be a very old instrument. But it has the appearance of a pretty new student horn. What info can I gather about a Mercury trumpet serial number 9064? Perhaps there's an alternative manufacturer for this marque? Thanks.

I'm sure a Mercury historian here will have an better idea, but it seems to be an interesting 9XXX serial number for a Mercury if its a Bach? I notice (perhaps outdated) sites listing them starting at 10,000:

https://www.bachloyalist.com/serial-numbers-trumpet/
http://www.electrotheremin.com/numbers.html
https://www.adams-music.com/instrumenten/serienummer/vincentbach.asp?lid=1033
http://www.horn-u-copia.net/serial/Bachlist.html

But some of the info on this site might explain it: https://www.facebook.com/notes/kosuke-fukushima/evolution-of-the-mercury-trumpets/10203404746492093/

All the sites suggest a 90xx number was made in 1949. This trumpet is much newer than that. Furthermore, Mercury is the only thing stamped or engraved into the bell. There is no mention of the Bach company. I'll try and take better pictures.

Please do try and share images of your trumpet.

I've seen a few examples of a Mercury trumpet that was a stencil line trumpet from the 1960-1970s that has Mercury engraved in block style lettering that was not a Bach instrument, and did not have any mention of Bach on the trumpet...

Photos will definitely help -

A Bach Mercury model would have the same bell engraving as the Stradivarius, except it would say "Mercury" in place of "Stradivarius".
