I got one without Bach branding and with the regular black exterior in basically new condition for about $300 including shipping in the USA a few months ago. The high asking price here must be due to the painting. At that price, there are better cases.

Walt made only a very few of the striped cases, so yes - they are very rare.

White, red & blue were the stripe colors.

He also did a few of his mutes with stripes.

It's not paint - it was a substance that he would drip (or have whoever was working in his shop) into the fiberglass mold for each case, then spray the fiberglass in on top. The colors are attached/combined with the fiberglass. They won't wear off.

You could consider those cases to be the Jackson Pollock cases of the brass world!

Walt stopped making his cases & mutes a few years ago. IMO they are the best case for a traveling musician, especially if you have to check your case on an airplane.

I have 4 of his cases - old and new-style single, trumpet/flugel combo, and one of the very few trumpet/flugel/piccolo combos that he made. They are my primary cases when I have work that calls for those combinations of horns. I added wheels and pull-handles to both combo cases.

Love them all and no plans on ever selling them.

The case for sale on eBay...unless you REALLY want a Walt case and especially a very rare one...that's entirely up to you on spending that much money. But for sure - your horn will be well-protected and the case will last for years.

It depends on whether you are the seller or the buyer. Personally I would never spend that much on a case.

Realizing the the Walt Johnson cases were VERY good, and are quite difficult to find today, no way would I spend that much on one, even if it was new. Cool graphics or not.
