Hey everyone! I know this is kindof a trumpet topic, but I didn't know where would be appropriate.
I am moving from the Midwest out to California for a new band director job in a few weeks, and I was just curious if anyone has any experience with moving with a horn as a carryon.
I have protec double case with wheels to hold 2 horns, (Bb and C, need them for gigs).
Also... I would really like to bring my protec gig bag with my flugelhorn, which is my specialty horn.
Has anyone every traveled with 2 cases before? I'd like them to be carryons, because I really dont have the time or money to get some sort of flight case that could be checked. |

Frankly, the chances of you getting two case sized carryons on a domestic flight are slim.

If you have a wife or children traveling with you, you could have one of them take one case as a carryon.
You always could pack the gig bag into a box with extra space around it to pack padding to protect the case and trumpet from dropping and punctures. This could then be checked. |

Buy a second seat for your additional instrument. It’s done all the time.

That may work in civilized countries, but here in The States it's hit and miss.
United Airlines (for one) failed to understand why one Principle Cellist wouldn't let them put her $50,000 cello in baggage after they sold the seat out from under her instrument.
