hello
from what i know, they changed few braces and a slighty lighter valve casing.
I tried the prototype in november, and i'm looking forward to buy one in march, since it plays better than my 6310

So will this be available for sale at the end of January? Or will we have to wait a few extra months? |

Yamaha has historical issues with valve casings. I am not encouraged if they are lightening the valve casing on the Z. _________________ King Super 20 Trumpet; Sov 921 Cornet

i never had such issues, neither with my 18 years old 6310, nor with what i saw in the new 8310 prototype. Really a great horn, i repeat, i'm looking forward to buy it |

Can't wait to try it. The 8310z is, in my opinion, a gigantic leap forward from the 6310z. If they can manage improvements on a similar scale here then we have one fine trumpet to look forward to trying! _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet

Interesting, thanks for posting. Contrary to JVL's post above, it appears they are going with a heavier 2-piece valve casing, rather than a lighter one? I personally would love a slightly larger valve block (with the valves farther apart like a Bach) which would be way more comfortable for my large hands. _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet

When I played it, the valve casing felt and looked much more like the Yamaha Artist Model Valve casings. I thought it was a big improvement over the original! |

That's what Bobby told me months ago.
Maybe Yamaha kept on trying other options and kept on modifying...
Anyway, whatever they did, the prototype i tried in november was a big improvement vs my 6310, in terms of ease, accuracy, openess and sound (volume and colours) |

Any historical issues with valve casings is simply that - history. Yamaha has some of the best engineering in the market and QC pretty much unequaled. _________________ veery715

Did the previous 6310/8310z horn have a one or two piece valve casing?Seems like the two piece casing is catching on with horn makers. It certainly had positive feedback with the 190 Bach horns.
Looks like the new 'Z' horn has a tuning slide brace as well.

Looks like the braces were moved about an inch.
And the length of the leadpipe before it hits the main tuning slide is different... you can tell by looking at where the pinky ring is located on the leadpipe.
Different mouthpiece receiver.
I assume they did not change the leadpipe or bell taper, since there is no mention of this.
Maybe the two piece valve block will give more core to the sound? _________________ Justin Dickson

Did the Gen2 you played have the brace on the tuning slide? |

I spoke to Bobby and he said the changes they made to the 8310Z were unnecessary, it's basically the same horn--save your money! Honestly, if you want to improve your Z, just talk to Mike and Ryan at M/K Drawing and Bending. My 8310z was already a great playing horn but after I got one of their bronze semi-round tuning slides, it's hands down the best trumpet I've ever played! _________________ Ray Callender

The valve block was different and reminded me of the Artist model valves and the bracing was slightly changed. I like the way it played. Was it a big improvement? Hard to say. That one played really well, had a good balance of overtones, and felt well constructed.
But, like many manufacturers one horn will play and feel different than the next horn on the assembly line. _________________ Improvisation Masterclass info: https://bit.ly/2U6im2V
