|
|
I am the new owner of a Boosey and Hawkes Eb soprano cornet and love the instrument so far (outside of the tuning of course...)
But, there is one issue. I'm trying to find out the rough idea of how old it is, and can't find anything online that resembles the numbers I have on my instrument.
The serial number stamped under the bell on this horn state exactly this: "A00517" WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?!
Through some of my research I've found that the logo on the bell probably places the instrument in the 60's, but that is just a guess.
I was actually borrowing another Eb soprano from a friend, and they are identical outside of a trigger ring on one and a lever on the other. So, does anyone have an idea at all how to date this horn?? _________________ Friends don't let friends clap on one and three.... |

I have one of those too. Funny thing is I wanted a new Eb so I went out and tried a bunch. I tried a new Yamaha, Kanstul, Getzen, Besson and a Carol Brass. Some I really didn't like and others I kind of liked, but the one I liked best was the old B and H. Have fun with yours. It took me a while to find the best mouthpiece. Both the Curry DC and the Wick S are good options.
I'll look for answers to your question as I've always wondered about the year mine was built too. _________________ Richard

The "A" may actually be a mis-stamped "4," which would make the serial number 400517, which puts it @ late 1964. _________________ King Super 20 Trumpet; Sov 921 Cornet
