Sorry if this is covered somewhere else, but I find the search capabilities limited. I often have to google something, then find a more direct link back to the forum. Anyway, that's another topic.
Question - what's the primary benefits/goals of the leadpipe exercises? Is it relaxing the embouchure, improving the elasticity of the lips to improve their vibrating? Training the aperture? I know this is used in conjunction with a more comprehensive method, but just curious on the leadpipe exercises.
Thx

OT, but here's an easy way to search TH:
Go to your favorite search engine (Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo...), type your search phrase in the search box, then put site:trumpetherald.com at the end. The search engine will search for that phrase just in TH. For example:
leadpipe blowing site:trumpetherald.com
This technique works with any website that's indexed by search site bots. _________________ Bb Yamaha Xeno 8335IIS

Right, Jimmy didn't work on the leadpipe very much or at all, to my knowledge.
However, some players do use a bit of an extension on the mouthpiece to give a little resonance. This can vary from the BERP, to a section of plastic tubing, to a section of brass tubing.
However players who use these tools were instructed to drill some holes in the tubing to break up the harmonic series and allow any pitch to sound on them. Similar to what you see on a BERP. I used to have a piece of a leadpipe, about 6 inches long, with maybe 4 holes drilled in the side to keep it from resonating on any particular harmonic series, thus allowing the Stamp drills to be played in any key, etc.
