I want to work on breath support, as of course indicated by the title. I have started exercising more, and have been working on some breathing gym exercises on YouTube and following along with the video. What else can I do?
How do you work on breath support? |

In addition to the 'breathing basics', a big factor is having the confidence to 'play the notes' without being timid and without delay or hesitation. That confidence also assists by preventing throat and chest tension.
You KNOW how the notes should be played - have plenty of air and 'Just DO it' (if only it was that simple ...).

KNOW (see) what the next note is BEFORE you have to play it.
PLAY the next note 'on time' and 'in rhythm'.
Oh ya, watch the conductor - they set what is 'on time'. |

'Breath support' or whatever you wish to call it is only 1 side of the story. The other is how to deliver the air into the instrument.
Be it breathing Gym, or other commentator's exercises, building capacity, doing any sort of cross training exercises is really good.
Then work on air flow into the horn, getting a great sound. Many many players seem to forget this and think that a session of breathing gym fixes everything.
cheers

Learn to play bass trombone or tuba. Every time I get a gig on one (or both) of those, it reminds me how much air they take. Digiridu can also work for this. _________________ BKA! Mic Gillette was my mentor and friend.
