|
|
Hi all,
I'm possibly going to be in Europe in the summer, and am interested in buying a Weimann rotary C. I'd have the option to go see them directly, and might be interested in doing that, which leads me to my question - can anyone share experiences about buying directly from them?
Specifically, I'm wondering if they're likely to have ready made instruments on hand (probably Passion Cs), how comfortable they would be in English, and how long it would likely take. (Like, should I plan to be there for a few days, or an afternoon?)
Thanks! |

Slightly hand waving first answer. Weimann sells internationally, so I presume English should be no problem. I know they have a well equipped showroom but if you are looking for a specific model, just contact them beforehand.
You may also be interested in the fact that Weimann is the German distributor for van Laar. _________________ 2019 Martin Schmidt eXcellence

If they're educated and they are German, they speak English.
Many high-end products in Germany are made-to-order vs. made on the assembly line mentality; takes time. I would call and talk to them NOW. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

Kehaulani may be slightly (too) optimistic about the presumed general skills in the English language but:
You have to make an appointment with Weinmann, normally they are only open on Tuesdays and Thursdays and by appointment.
From their website:
Business hours
Tue: 8:00 – 12:00 and 14:00 – 18:00
Thu: 14:00 – 18:00
and by appointment
For a personal instrument try-out we would ask you to make an appointment beforehand.
for English contact please write to:

Defano - I said educated.
My wife, my son and my daughter are German and they all speak English. I had little influence in that, BTW. They learned it in school and through experience.
My senior in-laws speak very little English, but belong to former generations and are minimally educated. By contrast, their children speak English.
A real frustration of mine was that most of my friends speak better English than I speak German. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

I've purchased a horn directly from Weimann.
Alex speaks perfect English, but I'm not sure about the others. As for whether or not they will have a horn they are ready to sell to you, it depends on what options you pick. They have a bunch of possibilities as far as bells, plating, weights, tuning slides, etc. They did have some horns that they were ready to sell immediately, but they weren't exactly what I was looking for so I ordered one. It probably took 2 months to get it. |

Don't worry about my experience with Germans. I live 70 km from the German border and I am almost fluent in German in reading and speaking and thanks to the unscrupulous Reiseführerterrorismus of Stefan Loose the Thai islands where I use to spend my wintertime are now overflooded (is that a word?) with Germans (about 90 to 95% of the visitors). There are thousands of them together with their obsessions of sand and sea. I agree that most of the younger ones are quite good in English but the soon they are a little bit older it will be different. |

Ask Weimann in they are at ITG or if they visit the USA soon.
They are around there frequently. |

Ha, that is funny. I have lived and worked in Germany for almost 20 years now and it has been exactly my experience that language skills here, even among younger people, are not terribly well developed, especially if you compare them to Scandinavia or the Netherlands, for example (now that is a nice German-style sentence with lots of commas). I even had a comment in my first response but decided to delete it again, because I did not want to start a side discussion (which I am doing now, I guess). In any case, I think, you will get along with the Weimann folks just fine. They are professionals and act professionally, as far as I can tell. _________________ 2019 Martin Schmidt eXcellence
