I recall seeing a trumpet player fronting the band with I believe the PTL Club - or might have been the 700 Club - many moons ago, my at the time impression is he was pretty decent. I'm not religious, wasn't a regular viewer I just happened to stumble across a performance while channel-surfing.

Anyone know who he is/was?

I know who Larry is but I don't think that's who it was. My recollection is this guy had kind of sandy brown hair and he was leading the band. The host said something like he was talking to Johnny Carson - "Johnny Carson you can't have him" i.e. a comparison to Doc. This guy was no Doc but I recall he was a pretty solid player.

That might be him.

Here's a video that shows more of his playing.

His playing reminds me of Doc a little bit. At times he also reminded me pf Phil Driscoll without the annoying sound effects Phil uses.

Have to assume you figured this out by now. FYI - Rick & Colleen Everitt were at PTL for quite awhile (post Brubaker I believe), so it quite possibly was Rick. I was headed there with him, but bailed about Ohio and headed home. Had enough at that point. The mention of Doc and Rick, etc., used to be a running gag intro to one of Rick's solos when on tour with Thurlow Spurr's group(s). Much ado made of Rick's father (Doc) and then Rick would be introduced as Doc Everitt's Son. I toured with Rick, played in his wedding and have enjoyed watching his family grow up. Rick & Colleen are proud parents of a brand new granddaughter. They recently relocated from Minnesota to Michigan. Rick still plays all the time and directs lots of musical activities in the region.

As a side note,Kevin Burns (Airmen of Note) was the lead trumpet player for Richard Roberts' "Expect a Miracle' TV show in either the late 80's or early 90's.

Can't find any video of Rick on Youtube. I only find one photo of him - one of his album covers. Is his playing style similar to Larry Brubaker's?
