Hi, I hope someone can help with this. I’m a middle school band director. One of my students came to class today wearing a tongue blocker in his mouth and says he can’t take it out (doctors order). He is playing trombone and can no longer play above 4th space g and now sounds weak. Other than putting him on bass drum, is there some exercises I can give home to help his playing and to keep from slurring everything? Obviously tonguing is now an issue. I have had students come in with new braces or new brace adjustments, but never a tongue blocker. I believe he had a habit of alway keeping his tongue between his teeth. It looks like half a drain in his mouth.
Thanks,

Dave

Ask his parents to make sure you are getting the real story.
