Here are my stream of consciousness notes from Trent Austin's videos. BTW, I submit these things quickly after I finish them and check them again later to correct typos. I want them to be actually what I typed while watching the videos and and not carefully transcribed writings.

I found WATCHING and LISTENING to Austin's playing to be a treasure trove if ideas.

I'm interested in your thoughts about Austin's 'mpc pressure' items discussed here -

KNOW (see) what the next note is BEFORE you have to play it.
PLAY the next note 'on time' and 'in rhythm'.
Oh ya, watch the conductor - they set what is 'on time'.

Nick,
Always dig what you've had to say over the years, and I get your notes on TA are in the high range section here. But his work on learning tunes, mastering changes, experimenting with rhythm can't be ignored. That's what I listen for. I think he might have said to me, or to a camera, that he wish he didn't feel a need to use his range or some words to that effect. Perhaps he'll chime in. Fine player (you're not so bad your own bad self!)

Ed, of course I am extremely interested in Trent's ideas about tunes, changes and his remarkable improvisational skills.

However, that seems to be the subject of a different thread and a different forum. This one is about the high note thing.

I can get to that at another time.

Mr. Drozdoff,

Thank you - very useful and interesting summary!

Trent's playing is great as always.
