What did I get? Tickets for a concert with Gabor Boldoczcki tonight for the whole family, for one. Really looking forward to that.
The coolest thing, however, is completely immaterial. A few days before Christmas the kids decided they wanted to play music with the parents and we now have a house band. Still playing very simple stuff like Jingle Bells, but my flugel nicely fits with the two flutes and the piano. Fun and I hope we can keep this going. |
TOTALLY cool! That’s a tradition you should continue!
One of my fondest memories as a kid was playing “Trumpeters Three” with my mom and my aunt (two ladies who didn’t believe that girls should not play brass instruments, my mom also played baritone.....uncommon for their time, the mid to late 1930’s).

No Festivus pole for me, but I did get a couple new tubes of Chopsaver in my stocking. As for trumpet stuff, I still have too many horns and plenty of mutes, cases, stands, mouthpieces, etc., and Santa knows it...

I got a puffy shirt and a coffee table book about coffee tables (with folding legs on the back cover so that you can use the book as a coffee table).
Seriously, I got this:
I'd like to call it a pocket flugelhorn, but it only qualifies as such if you have pockets like Captain Kangaroo. It's about as compact as possible given the complexities of tightly bending the kind of large-diameter tubing that makes up a flugelhorn bell. It plays as nicely as the Kanstul Chicago model whose parts it utilizes.
Robb Stewart made it for me.
There have been a few threads on the TrumpetMaster forum (and possibly here too) indicating a strong interest in pocket flugelhorns, so I thought I'd post this. |

No, its a Cugel (Compact flugel) 
Seriously, that's one cool horn.
I was also good, but not that good. I got a used flugel (Carol) and a used picc (Yamaha).

Tonight is the first chance I have to post on a couple of threads that caught my attention. Between work, family, gigs and church...well, sometimes posting falls by the wayside. Last Xmas was good to me, in fact it started early. In October, a new Carol Brass Blackhawk from Rich Ita's Brass Instrument Workshop, then an unexpected set of gigs provided the wherewithal for a new Lynnzhorn! I love my Lynnzhorn so much that I have ended up neglecting the new Blackhawk. Anyway, sorry for the very late post.
