|
|
Hi, all,
My trio is being hired for an event, and they want a COI. I have never had to purchase band insurance before.
Any recommendations on companies? I don't want to spend a ton of money, we're really not getting paid a ton here! _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet

Have them pay for it. The ONLY time I've ever paid for insurance was for my 19 piece big band to use a school's facility to rehearse my band once a week for a year. I, personally, have NEVER heard of a venue requiring you to carry insurance!

The need for insurance is becoming more common. Especially once you become more "corporate". Not sure if you'll feel the need to spend money for it in your circumstances, but you can contact www.specialtyinsuranceagency.com for your needs. Roughly $240 for one year and they'll issue the COI's you need on a per gig basis. Good luck. _________________ Del Quadro Grizzly

Am I readinging wrong? These items covered in the performer's insurance seem to be the responsibility of the host, not the band. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

During my time in local government a decade ago, COIs were required of anyone looking to rent or use community facilities, and of all vendors hired for community events. Our municipal insurance required it. _________________ Ron Berndt

I found this place which is $59 for a 3-day policy:
https://www.insurancecanopy.com/musicians-insurance
I might have to do that.
It's a corporate gig, we'll be playing at a company's facilities, so I guess they require this sort of thing from their entertainers. I usually play bars/restaurants and weddings and such, and I've never been asked for a COI before, but I guess if you're performing in a company's office they want you to have liability covered so they don't get sued or whatever?
Anyway. Thanks for your comments so far, any further info/feedback is welcomed. I think I'll ask the venue to cover it - it never hurts to ask, right? And if they won't do it, $60 isn't that bad. _________________ Yamaha 8310Z trumpet
