Jeff, many many thanks for posting the video on Dokshizer. Certainly incredible technique (Hora Stacato) but most of all, a lyrical approach about the music performed. These days that is rare to find amongst trumpet players when faster, louder and higher seems most important. And no pinky ring either.

I read his autobiography. One thing that is interesting, to me at least, is how in both this bio-pic and his book, is how he skirts the unique environment in Soviet times. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

The greatest thing about him to me was that he never got caught up in the trumpet gearhead thing (unlike many of us, most of all me) and played everything on the Bb trumpet. Andre gave him a piccolo and he gave it to one of his students because he really didn't use it much--he could play the baroque literature on the standard Bb and preferred it that way, believing it was more beautiful and had a broader range of dynamics and color than the piccolo did (according to this interview: http://www.bruceduffie.com/dok.html ). _________________ Bryan Fields
