I'm interested to know why the OP turned down one gig, but was willing to take on another gig that was "in that area." The purpose of turning down the first was because of the distance. This second church is just as far and pays "$200 less," but the OP is willing let his son do the gig? That's why this story sounds fishy. _________________ "You need F-15's..." Joe Biden |

---------------------------------------
I believe the confusion is because of the somewhat incomplete details -
I think the first job was declined because it was significantly further away (but still in 'same area') as the second and the pay was not sufficient for the travel distance.
For the second job, a better reply would have been - "I will accept the job only with these conditions being met - extra $$, music beforehand, etc".
The reply for the second job seems like it could have been interpreted as "I am willing to do the job, but would like you to think about these other items ...".
With the "I am willing" part understood as meaning "I'll be there".
The wording in the OP was "kid was willing to do the gig, but the rate of pay was too low and would Church match the rate kid had already decided against, and could they send the music"
Wording precision is very helpful to prevent misunderstanding. If something HAS TO BE a certain way, make sure that everyone understands the requirements and will meet them.

PLAY the next note 'on time' and 'in rhythm'.
Oh ya, watch the conductor - they set what is 'on time'. |

I wondered that too. I did ask, but the OP didn’t answer.
But I read it as “didn’t want to drive that far and the kid will get a gig closer anyway.”
Then after getting no other offers the one the week of was better than nothing. |

I don't think it's real. I went to the profile and read past posts. Put together with this one, it's seems fake to me. _________________ Joe Spitzer

Yeah, the poor communication seems entirely plausible to me too. (See this thread.)

I looked at OP's past posts and I saw a parent posting about (and sometimes bragging on) their son. They mentioned his name, the names of his teachers. If you google the kid's name you find trumpet credits at a music school in Vermont, an article about him representing Connecticut in the Boston Youth Symphony, and a credit as ITG Youth Division winner.
This particular thread was started late on the Saturday night before Easter and was obviously posted with some frustration.
My spidey-sense isn't tingling; I rank parentologist high in "truthiness." _________________ Yamaha YTR6345HGS Bb

I'm always sceptical of someone with just a few posts. The last two subjects both concerned Easter. Nothing happened in between? The time lines with the kids doesn't seem right.

I don't know what to do. Kid (14), was offered a church job for Easter. But then, the director asked if kid would take about 70% of what he'd already advertised the job would pay. There is no quest ...

I tried to find out but haven't succeeded. It was the Ray Conniff orchestra... maybe Bernie Glow? _________________ Yamaha YTR6345HGS Bb
