But the side facing away from your trumpet has no rejection at all. That could be a problem in less-than-perfect acoustic environments.

Neither the excellent side rejection nor the completely absent back rejection is "ridiculous". It's an ordinary ribbon-mic "figure 8" polar pattern, like pretty much any ribbon. Which means it picks up sound from the back just as well as it does from the front.

Lots of folks dont know ribbon mic characteristics so compared to a condenser with a cardioid pattern the rejection is ridiculous.
If the room is a problem, I use a mic shield which pretty much eliminates the rear part of the pattern. link A poor man’s version could be putting a blanket behind the mic😁
In most cases though it isnt necessary as the volume generated by the horn at the front of the mic far outweighs the reflections from the back.
Just trying to help by suggesting a mic I found to be really effective.

While we're talking ribbons, I have to mention Trumpet Herald's own Michael Barkley has started his own microphone company. I have one of his Infinity ribbon mics, and I use it for recording at home. An excellent mic for the price!

Here's his site.
Here's Mike's fb page.
Here's me on the new mic.
