I have built myself a cheap in-ear monitoring system. I use a Head Tap, Rolls Monitor Station, a 1/4th stereo cable to hook to a monitor feed from the board, and Shure 215 earbuds. This works well for me allowing me to mix my sound with the band sound and hear well. (I'm getting old and deaf) My problem is that I still get a LOT of ambient sound from the band's stage amplification.
Can any of you recommend a set of earbuds that will block out most of the stage sound?

Huh, I was going to suggest the Shure 215 Have you tried the different tips? Paying more gets you better sound, not necessarily better isolation. I think you may need to talk to an audiologist about custom molds. _________________ Yamaha YTR6345HGS Bb

Yeah, If you're using IEM you should look into custom molds for the best isolation. _________________ MH |

Definitely check out the other tips that came with the ear buds. But the best thing you and the whole band can do is make sure everyone ELSE has in ear monitors too. My band did this 20 years ago and my ears don't ring after a gig like they used to. _________________ Del Quadro Grizzly

Will they stay securely in my ears if I move around with a long chord? _________________ Music is a fire in your belly, fighting to get out. You'd better put a horn in the way before someone gets hurt. |

Over ear Headphones would provide great sound isolation too, Granted if youre adamant on using IEMS I would custom mold some tips for your ears specifically. _________________ Long tones. |

Try foam tips - much cheaper than custom molds. Shure sells some from its website. Comply brand has several sizes and degrees of isolation. |

What about trying something like the Bose noise cancelling ear buds or headphones? _________________ "Nearly as good as I need to be. Not nearly as good as I want to be".

I ordered a set of Etymotic style triple flange silicone tips. Seems that type is supposed to provide the best isolation. I'll let you know how it goes. _________________ Music is a fire in your belly, fighting to get out. You'd better put a horn in the way before someone gets hurt. |
