|
|
Hi
Someone is selling a 72* L bore in my area (paris, france), 3××××× serial, and it seem to be gold plated, but the seller doesn't know for sure... I can't see well on the pictures.
Did anyone played a similar horn ?
I off course know the ML 72* , and usually like it but find it a little tight, that's why this L bore could match !
I mostly play small jazz group, solo and experimental music.
I would appreciate any informations, thanks !! |

depends on the leadpipe
I have mainly seen L bores with the 25 pipe, and ML bores with the 43 pipe. Not exclusively though.
The L bore 72 with the 25 pipe plays smaller that the ML with 43 pipe.
I like the L bore with 25 pipe. I actually like the ML with 25 pipe too.
Most players who play 72 bell have the ML bore with 43 pipe. That is a standard combo for a reason.
The 72 25 L bore is a good feeling horn. A bit bigger feeling than the 25 bell 25 pipe L bore, which is also a nice combination. All of these are quite different from the 37 25 ML standard feel. _________________ Mouthpiece Maker

If the horn is really in your area you need to get to try it out. That will answer your questions better than anyone here can. A couple of hours driving to go try a horn is worth it. _________________ veery715

Thanks for your reply !
The leadpipe is #43.
Also, the 2 stems (brasses?) normaly situated on the tuning slide were removed, or never have been built in the first place, there is no sign of work here.
I wonder wich impact could it have on the sound. |

I am agree trying is always better, but the guy is like 500 miles away from my place so I have to consider a shipping..
So I have to buy it to try it !
I curious if someone had tried this particular configuration, it s the firs time I see an "72 L" engraving with the star bell, it must be pretty rare ? |

A large bore 72* with a 43 pikpe will play VERY open for you. Having the tuning slide braces removed will also let the horn ring a little more. Think perhaps along the lines of a Yamaha LA, or other horns of that nature. (even though the LA has a brace on the slide)
Sounds like a neat instrument! Good luck. _________________ (List horns here) |

I know a little more about this horn, it s actually gold plated by the factory, custom ordered by the buyer, and he asked bach to not built the 2 brasses on the tuning slide.
I finally bought it, and will be able to tell more about the sound when I'll get it.
Have a nice day everyone ! |

By the way, not to criticize, but it's "braces". Bon chance and enjoy. Let us know how it turns out. _________________ veery715

About 30 years ago, I owned a 72*/43 large bore, with the two braces on the leadpipe / main tuning slide removed. It also had a tuning bell conversion, so there were no bell to leadpipe braces. It was in raw brass. (This is how the horn was when I acquired it.) It took a bit of effort to play, but what a beautiful lush sound!
I don't remember what I traded it off for, but I have often wanted to find another one that played like it. Great horn! |

Open but not too much, beautiful bach sound, very good compression, it seems to be almost new, with a nice gold lacquer with no loss, what can I tell, just the best deal of my life !!
