Very bad, but completely expected, news. Baltimore's finances have varied between bad and worse since the dawn of the century.
When you hear all the positive words describing the changing population of American cities and the socio-cultural incorporation of suburbs with their revitalizing downtowns, you hear "young", "educated", "socially responsible", "environmentally conscious", "activist", "tech savey", and "connected" - but you never hear "cultured". Add to that the large number of smaller donors who realized last year that their charitable donations had little or no impact on the bottom line on their taxes and religious and cultural institutions in the US are taking a big hit in charitable funding going forward.
Its sadly ironic that while there seem to be more really talented musicians than ever before, there is less ability to pay for the best than ever before too. _________________ Ron Berndt
