Fellow THers,
Have you ever tried out a horn just because of all the hype you read on here and other forums, and lo and behold...it totally lives up to it's rep ???
My list include: Old Conns from 20's-40's (2B, 22B, Gustadt), Holton T-102, King Silver Flair & Silver Sonic, Olds Recording, Schilke B1, Taylor Chicago Custom.
Now you...Go !!!!

I bought a Conn 36B at the suggestion of a fellow trumpet player. I was pleasantly surprised by how it played for me. I was so happy that I bought a second one. Great horns.
As great as they are, I need to sell one of them. _________________ Conn 36B

For me the Martin Committee Deluxe lives up to the hype. I've had a 1957 medium bore for several years and just acquired a 1953 large bore. They are extremely easy to play/responsive horns. Another one in that category is my 1957 Selmer Balanced 24A, a super sweet horn, very easy to play/responsive.
I also have a Olds 1947 Super Recording but I like my 1962 Olds Recording better because it gets (to me) a richer sound. Ease of play/responsiveness is about the same.
My Calicchio 1s/2 also lives up to the hype: A flame thrower. _________________ HERMOKIWI |

Wild Thing Bb trumpet. I read the hype and the hit pieces. The hype was right.
Wild Thing flugelhorn and Short Cornet. I wrote the hype. _________________ Brian A. Douglas

There is one reason that I practice: to be ready at the downbeat when the final trumpet sounds. |

I agree with you on these from your list, but never liked a Schilke B1. Now a B5? Those are nice, never owned one though.
NY Bach, LB. Callet Superchops. Select Harrelsons. Kanstul 1525. Getzen custom reserve flugel, before the hype |

Any vintage Conn horn.
My first trombone was a very poor student Conn from 2006 that I overpaid for, which really turned me off to the idea of buying another one of their instruments. Until a few years ago, I played a 6H trombone from the early 50s. I fell in love.
Now I own a custom gold brass 6H trombone and a silver plate 22B trumpet. Some of the best investments I've made. _________________ I play....
