I need some ideas for a trumpet duet with wind ensemble or concert band.

Level can be advanced, we would like a challenge.

Any ideas are welcome.

Thanks,

EJ

My son just did the Vivaldi with one of his students with the student's high school band. Nice duet. Try that.

Great suggestion. Any contemporary ideas?

Not contemporary, but the Fransceschini has also been done for band. Written D part is preserved, the work was moved into Bb, same as the Vivaldi.

Don Hunsberger did a "Carmen Fantasy" for Charlie and Barbara. Uses various trumpets and flugel. We performed with them in an orchestra setting, perhaps he's transcribed it for band accomp as well. You would (obviously) need some very good soloists to pull this off. (Often times, works such as this nature are billed as being written for, or performed by 2 solo trumpets rather than a duet.

I'm pretty sure Tony Plog has a piece for two trumpets and band. Unless I'm sorely mistaken, John Rommel and Joey Tartell premiered it at IU a few years ago.

Tony's concerto is indeed available with wind band accompaniment. Another good one that has been transcribed for band is the Stephen Paulus.

I wrote a piece for Charlie Schlueter and Eric Berlin for ITG 2007 (Amherst).
They also just recorded it. It is called Duo Fantastique.

Go here to find options for listening and following the score. (Hover over the title, and the options will pop up).

Thanks, and good luck!

I'm looking for a trumpet duet piece with concert band for July 10th (soon!). Any suggested pieces for two pro trumpeters and a good community band? If you know of hard copies in the Utica NY area'ish or PDF editions, that would also be a great help, thanks!

Thank you

Erik Morales has a decent Concerto for 2 trumpets. Cool imitative lines and a nice cadenza in the 3rd mvt. We played this last year and all kinds of audiences seemed to appreciate it. Give it a look!

I'm assuming that you may have already perused all of the replies on this thread, but in case you haven't - perhaps you'd be interested in having a listen to my Duo Fantastique.

And we sell pdfs, so you could essentially have this music right away if desired.

Thanks - and good luck.
