Now that Anderson has stopped doing valve rebuilds, who do you guys use? I heard Kanstul has also stopped.
Thanks,
Sammy |

Steve Winans at Doctor Valve has done valve jobs on two trumpets for me. The results were superb. I sent him a third one, fully expecting him to advise me that it needed a complete valve job. Instead, he advised some fitting work that solved the problem at a significant cost savings over a full valve job. That told me a lot about his integrity.
Take care,

Steve Winans does do great work. However, he had Anderson’s to do the plating. He then did the honing and fitting.

I believe Oberloh Woodwind and Brass Works can perform all the steps of valve rebuilds. |

They will still do (from what I am told) the actual plating. They just will not do the honing and refit. I believe that has already been reported here in a prior discussion, but that's one of my few complaints about TH...finding good articles from the past on here can be a challenge at times.
I believe all the names you have seen here are viable and quality options for refitting your valves and extending the life of your wonderful instrument.

Al, I am not sure if the hard part is finding or finding good. If the former it took me one search using Bing and the search term “anderson valve site:trumpetherald.com”. Google works too. TH’s native search, not so much.
Thread discussing changes at Anderson. |

Charlie Melk did one horn for me. Excellent work, trumpet returned technically like new _________________ Technology alone is a poor substitute for experience. (Richard Sachs) |

Jim Becker at Osmun did a total Replate in-house on my 1971 Benge this past January.
Replay of earlier pic post:
The valves are at least as good as when new (it's been a long time since I first played this horn in '71, so hard to remember, but I think better even compared to my Yamaha and Bach experiences on new horns). This point bears repeating: all In-House work and well worth the relatively fast turn-around and cost (much, much less than a new, similar horn such as a Burbank 5* and a known quantity, at that!). I play my post valve job Benge everyday with joy, much like when I was 40 years younger and crazy about this horn!
Jim will get my business again!

Unless Steve mentioned recently, he used Anderson's for plating, though he did his own honing, as he worked at Schilke fitting valves.

Yeah, I do valve rebuilding often enough. We do the structural plating and all the machine work here in seattle.
Here is the URL to my web site's valve rebuild page. I still have a little more to do on it but its pretty much finished.http://www.oberloh.com/valverebuild.HTML
If you have questions on the service, feel free to give me a shout.
