Hi I am not asking to have anyone pick my piece out, but rather see if anyone has had some success with a relatively narrow diameter piece on a C horn. I am playing a GR Carl Fischer piece which is pretty narrow. I know you want to get breadth of sound as well as projection on a c trumpet, can you do that with a 10 and a half c type piece? I would think a larger back bore would help. Thanks for your time George Hill |

Regardless of diameter, a common trend is for players to use a larger throat on C trumpet than Bb- that could be helpful for ya _________________ JPS |

I play a JK USA 5C on my large bore Getzen Eterna. This is a 16.5 mm cup diameter piece, which is tha same I use on my Bb and flugel. It has a 3.6 mm throat and plays just fine. I also have the same mp with a 3.8 mm throat and really feel no difference.
So, I use the same cup diameters on Bb and C and (for me) do not really feel that a larger throat does much. May just be me - I do not play C that often and maybe the difference ist just too small. Plus the horn is an LB anyway. _________________ 2019 Martin Schmidt eXcellence

Many trial and error in my day lead me to believe my C trumpet blows much more tolerable with a mouthpiece with a larger throat and backbore combo. I’ve played mouthpieces as small as a stock Yamaha John Hagstrom (25 throat I recall) and as large as a Parke 650-275-24 (Orchestral backbore, 24 throat).
My most quirky playing was with the Laskey 65MC. I absolutely love the feel and the blow on Bb, but the blow is just too different on C trumpet.
The taper of the mouthpiece can determine a blow of a mouthpiece on a certain horn too! |

You don't need a bigger throat. With our math we can do that with the Throat Shape and Throat Exponent.
We have made a custom mpc for C Trumpet based off the Fischer rim with the GR C** cup parameters used for C trumpet. Can be ordered in Classic blank or the Symphonic Blank.
