I got to try a YTR-9335NYS today and was shocked because of how much lighter it was than a 8335 or a Bach 37. Does anyone know why? It is a heavyweight horn but it still feels so light.

My understanding is the valve block is thinner and lighter than the standard Yamaha to copy the older Bach from the Chicago Symphony vintage era. Also the bell gauge is tapered thin as it flares out to the rim which reduces the weight at the bell end of the horn making it a more balance feel. I don't think the overall weight is so light to put it as a light weight horn and the sound is more thick and rich of the symphony sound than a commercial sound.

It felt pretty much the same weight as my Bach when I tried it. I guess I wasn't focused on the weight and maybe I expected it to be lighter? I don't know. Those horns sing and that's all that matters, yeah?
