I watched a Kanstul 1603 demo on YouTube and the player used 2 mouthpieces, the 2nd was a HT3 and it sounded like velvet, maybe even velvet smeared with butter!

Anyone tried or use one of these?

What are the characteristics of this mp, size, the rim, bite, etc?

I'm using a mid sized, kind of all round piece, it's a wick 4b, based on a Bach 7c with less bite and a flatter rim. Would the HT3 take much getting used to?

My horn is a large bore Committee.

Thoughts?

Man, this mouthpiece with your Committee will give you a beautiful, dark tone.

The mouthpiece is like a Bach 3 rim but V shaped, a la French Horn. Very deep.

I just got one based on the sound but it's just too much for me because I am working my way, slowly, from having two major strokes and several lesser ones.

You would find the rim has more bite than your current one but its not that much different in diameter. Although it is V shaped it is a convex cup and its all balanced so it plays in tune. I have used it for lower orchestral parts too. Its a very nice thing and worth having.

Thanks for the input guys. The only thing that gives me reservations is that the trade off with this mp is going to be harder work to get the higher register in exchange for a fatter sound.

I'm a comeback player and working my way back to getting more than a line above the staff atm. I would like to be getting a reliable D or E with strong tone this time next year.

Maybe I'd be better off with something a little less deep, something that fattens tone without making the high register like trying to lift a car with your lip!

Someone suggested a Yamaha 16c4 - 14c4. They are half the price too and seem to have good rep.

I dont like much bite on a mp, there has to be something with some depth that also gives comfort and endurance......
