The practice box and musicians coat are conceptually like the Marcus Bonna GS case. http://mbcases.com.br/en/trumpet-gs-studio/.
The big drawback to both of them compared to the GS case is the side facing you is completely open so a significant amount of sound still makes it out into the room. The GS case has some sound absorbing flaps that mostly cover the side facing you which helps some.
My guess is the Bonna GS case would be pretty expensive and would take months to arrive if you ordered it from a local Bonna dealer.
If you’re into DIY you can make something like the GS for a fraction of the cost. Surprisingly terry cloth bath towels are pretty effective at absorbing sound. At least if you layer a bunch of them to a thickness of a couple of inches.
A big plastic box provides the frame. Maybe something the size of a banker’s box. Then line the inside of the box with a couple of inches of bath towels. Keeping them from sagging will be a challenge.
Then what to do about the opening?
Make a couple of “curtains” out of towels that are a couple of inches thick. Attach them to the perimeter of the open side of the box facing you such that the curtains overlap a little in the middle but leave enough of a slit that you can easily get your bell into the box.
The one I made looked terrible and wasn’t very portable but it reduced the sound to about 65db. Which is around the level of a TV. |

I found another product which seems to be a compromise between the Marcus Bonna studio and the PhonCoat box:
MUTE TUBE
