Hello. I am a high school student, and I am lost on the idea of embouchure changes. I've had many point out to me a "smile" embouchure, and it is true that I have a very noticeable one. I can play very well overall and almost consistently get first chair wherever I go. My only problems, it seems, are range and pressure. I can take away the pressure, but then I cannot even hit a solid G above the staff. With pressure, I can go up to an F. However, I get extremely fatigued either way. I cannot hold notes above the staff for long, and then my chops just feel like they've been tenderized.
I'm looking into forming a new embouchure after a professor noted my faults once again. The TCE has left me an utter mess. Do I arch my tongue so that it strikes the cutting edge of my top teeth? If I take away the mouthpiece, should my tongue be visible with the embouchure being held?
I am also attempting in vain to pull my lips in slightly so as to prevent my habit of smiling. I can watch in a mirror and try to not fall back on this, but I end up slowly reverting back to my old embouchure 100% of the time.
Lastly, I am able to fork the end of my tongue, and this is strangely happening to me when I try to reach a lower register and occasionally upper register. I have no idea how to combat any of this, and getting a private teacher has never been an option for me and it still is not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Apparently a reminder is required. This is the Callet forum. The OP is asking for help with Jerry Callet’s teachings. Make sure responses are not contrary to TCE or they will be deleted. Posting about Roy Stevens or other very different approaches does not address what the OP is asking. Surely he knows If he wants information about other systems he can easily post in other forums.

Enigma, Having had my own struggles with range and endurance before studying with Mr Callet, I know your pain. If you aren’t taking lessons then how are you getting TCE information? Are you getting a proper spit buzz and practicing it daily? Are you working with Callet pedal tones to combat smiling? Clarify where you are at in the process and TCE players will have a chance to help.

Greetings -

Ralph can be a bit of a nut sometimes, but he REALLY breaks it all down very clearly in the video above - if anything, even more clearly than Jerome did most of the time.

Good luck & have fun —

Also if you haven't stumbled across it yet I have a site that explains a lot of the ideas of TCE at http://tonguecontrolled.info/
