That’s an amazingly top-notch group of players who are using a mere ‘student level’ trumpet! Perhaps I ought to get ahold of one...

I played the horn today for sure not a student horn it reminds me a very open 6335 with much warmer sound in middle and low registers, great horn for the money.

I used this trumpet months ago for my commercial work (Broadway shows, big band and Rock & pop music)

I talked with a friend (luthier) about improvements to my horn and he told me some amazing ones. soften the drain screws, loosen the lower piston caps and flip the second slide. wooooow my Trumpet is a 100% new model, it is not psychological, there is certainly a change. All easier, improved tuning, step outdoors and great sound with less effort. I tried it during my show just out of curiosity, but now everything will stay that way.

My friend told me that those changes used to make effects on Yamaha trumpets of the signature and artist series. try it for yourself!

Compared to the intermediate level horns made in China, the 6335RC is made in Japan.

Even if they reuse some parts from the student levels, could we assume that this horn would have a better quality control, precise alignment of all the parts, better quality soldering and so. ?

I’ve tried several different RC’s, and I think the quality is really good! The only student horn feeling is the case, but it is more than sturdy enough (the case)!

- The Yam 5335G is intermediate but is build in Japan.

- The 2000 , 3000 and 4000 series are made in China.

I think the quality control is fat OK in Yamaha-China.
Never heard complains about student level Yam trumpets.

I thought he played the Xeno YTR-8335S. He's got such a great sound.

Indeed.

It's hard to choose between 8310Z and 6335RC, without playing them.

But as i understand, the 8310Z is a special trumpet and a little odd... you have to learn to handle it?

I'm curious if there are any former Bach players that switched to Yamaha. If so- why make the change? I hope to try some Yamaha this week, just for grins. (I play an early 80s Bach 37).

I play a Yam 5335G (intermed) and compared my trumpet during 3 day's with a Strad 37 (80s) from a friend.

The Strad is higher class.
Nice sound ,better slotting and even easyer playing.

But i will give a try to the Yam 6335RC .
Strad 37 stay's a candidate.

switched to Yamaha Bb and C about a year and a half ago. Haven't looked back. The Yamaha horns seemed to ring and respond better than the Bachs I was using, and the tuning seemed more manageable. Less effort for better results.

went from a 37 and 239/25H to Chicago Bb and Chicago C.

Yamaha Student level horns are the 2xx series and the 2xxx series.
Intermediate horns or advanced student are the 4xxx and 5xxx horns
6xxx and up are professional horns according to Yamaha and its resellers.

I have not played an RC, but I think people like the 6335 because it is a little more open and flexible. I use an older one one as my backup horn. Would love to hear from those who have tried and RC.

Thanks, I’m quite well aware of many aspects of nearly every model Yamaha has produced since they started making trumpets. Having been on a multi-hundred trumpet foray (which thankfully ended years ago), I’ve owned and/or played most every trumpet design they’ve produced, with the primary exceptions being their newer (and often much more expensive) Gen II and Gen III 8xxx and 9xxx models, and the 6335RC. I once went through multiple 6335’s of varying ages, finishes, and other features, and used one as my primary theater Bb for several months. I was being purely facetious above, since some folks have referenced part numbers and discovered there is significant commonality between the various lines. Any idea when the RC may start showing up on US shores?

Ah, makes sense. Sometimes hard to tell in the forum format.

Quite a trumpet journey you had. I envy your knowledge, not so sure about the process of obtaining it!

I’ve played a Strad. 43* until a couple of weeks ago, and switched to the new Yamaha Z. It lacks some of the Strad. core, but it plays so easy, and the core in the new Z’s are really good! The new ones also feels like the Strad. in my hands.
