Hi everyone

I am a 'comeback player'. My chops are coming along and I am looking for some literature (solos) to work on. It needs to be on an Intermediate level. I hope you all can give me some suggestions. Also, where in the *** do you get sheet music any more? All I can find is downloadable stuff.

Again thanks.

I've had really satisfying results using the suggested, and graded, material from ABRSM.

Scroll down to Trumpet for suggested solo material: https://gb.abrsm.org/en/our-exams/brass-exams/trumpet-cornet-flugelhorn-exams/trumpet-cornet-flugelhorn-grade-6/

Also, scroll around the web site for additional material: https://us.abrsm.org/en/

There is a very good series from the Canadian Royal Conservatory of Music that is graded and comes with recordings ( both Trpt.&pno and piano alone)

Just so there's not a misunderstanding, the ABRSM music is available as sheet music.

If you're looking for familiar tunes of 'popular music', then the Hal Leonard 'Fake Books' are a good place to start. I recently bought the 'Dixieland Bb Fake Book' and there are lots of good tunes in it.

Some possibly helpful links below. As your browsing, if you click on each individual solo, collection, etc., often there are sample pages and descriptions.

I purchase my printed sheet music (methods, etudes, quintets, solos, etc.) online from Hickey's Music, and have always gotten great service from them. Pender's and Stanton's are also reputable/reliable sources for printed sheet music.

Here are a few intermediate-level collections that might be of interest to you:

Fritz Damrow's "Bel Canto for Brass," "Multistyle Etudes" and "Sound the Trumpet"

Rubank's "Rubank Book of Trumpet Solos" (the "Intermediate Level" book; the "Basic Level" book is nice but not very challenging for an intermediate level player)

Phil Smith's "Concert Studies" ("Advanced Concert Studies" are wonderful, but most are beyond the intermediate level)

H.A. VanderCook's "The H.A. VanderCook Solo Collection" (you can also find "Trumpet Stars" volume 1 & 2 by VanderCook

Allen Vizzutti's "Trumpet Sonority" ("Caprices" is fun may be a bit too challenging)

Voxman's "Concert and Contest Collection"

John Walker's "The Trumpet in the Attic"

Have fun!
